Floating Point is one of the best modern jazz albums I've heard in years.I listen to it a lot and am constantly astonished at the almost unprecedented level of musicianship on display.Quite aside from the mechanics of virtuosity, it is a rare work that is so rich in melodic content and Floating Point is virtually over flowing with brilliantly serene ideas.
@Getsemwet everything can be compared if you know the "tertium comparationis", the third element that the two have in common. The result of that comparison would be that Pat's music is always laundered with fabric softener . To me it is boring like anything. John has explored different planes of (musical) consciousness. Few players have got this level. Allan Holdsworth is among them. Pat definitely not. emeraldo.de
Saw him render this piece with The Five Peace Band. -- Amazing. Saw Pat Meth a decade prior to that while he was promoting his Imaginary Day album and that hair raising as well (in a great way obviously). I hate to compare John and Pat but there is just something almost surreal about McLaughlin's range of styles. I do wish that him and Pat would agree to converge on some project. That will be epic.

This is the first time I see Di Piazza play, and I have no idea how he plays that way.
