To anyone who has seen this could you explain the ending (spoiler) Pacino's girl puts on his hat and glasses and the camera pans to Pacino who looks at us through the mirror all the while NYPD has another murder? Sooo is Al now the suspect??

The leather/BDSM gay-bar disco scene depicted in "Cruising" is a bit theatrical, but that's pretty much how it was in the late 1970s and early 80s, only there was a much more overtl (and anonymous) sexual activity engaged in by the patrons. I understand William Friedkin needed to tone it down or it wouldn't pass the censor, but cutting 40 minutes from the film seems a bit like overkill. I'm sure the great American movie-going public could have taken a rawer, rougher version of "Cruising".

The New York of the late 70's/early 80's had a plethora of wild, ultra kinky leather bdsm gay bars as depicted in Cruising. It has a documentary atmosphere to it, i've heard rumors that the director had to delete more than 40 minutes of bar footage too "rough" for mainstream audiences to handle
