Interesting, but I am not sure beauty culture should be the primary emphasis of vocational training for females unless there is little else open to them. If the organization is simply directed to create a class of self-employed entrepreneurs I abstain. What these countries need is an educated and literate working class that can make the changes and demands on the present institutions to force change.

Your observation is an interesting one. The reality is that these girls have already completed two years of vocational training (sponsored by AKIN) and they have chosen hairdressing as a vocation. We supported their choice once we learned that hairdressing is a viable profession -especially because most women in Kenya (even the poorest) do not wash and braid their own hair. Our 8 girls can look forward to self susatining lives in the future.
Thank you for your interest in AKIN.

I am very proud of the work AKIN is doing in Kenya. Enjoy our first video about the program.
