The PDF notation file of my complete piano solo as well as an .MP3 file of the backing track I used in this video and a MIDI file of my piano solo are all available on my web site at http://www.Lot2Learn.com

This was another "request" that I just couldn't turn down. Herbie Hancock has written so many great compositions. I love the way he mixes modal with II-V progressions and suspended chords to give the song that very unique "Herbie" sound.

I did not put the chord changes in this video so if you need a copy I have put a link for you to download them free on my website. Just go to http://www.Lot2Learn.com and scroll down to the listing for Dolphin Dance and you will see the link (chord changes only, no melody).

7notemode does a great solo piano version of this song, which was one of the very first posts of his I watched, and I've been hooked to his channel ever since!

Rhodes piano sound courtesy of Lounge Lizard VST with a Roland FP-4 as the controller keyboard. MIDI keyboard display courtesy of Jamal (you're awesome man!) and can be found at www.midikeyz.com.

Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for acknowledging my request. Tonight my band has a gig so we'll just do this song and see where it ends... , best regards, Michael

  • @waaldam Great.

  • Does someone know the rhythm from 3:37 to 3:45? By the way nice done !

  • @cos90is I think it is basically a 6/8 feel played over a 4/4 measure - sometimes referred to as a 3/2 feel because I am playing a triplet figure over 2 beats - something like that anyway. ;-)

  • hey it's great - is that band in a box background or jamey aebersold ?

  • As soon as i get a new job, i'll buy near all of ur notations, and start to study!

  • Roger, your way of playing jazz inspired me incredibly. I have found your tutorials on YouTube and you have motivated me to spend several hours a day and practicing piano chords and improvisation. I can not reach your level, but it still makes me a lot of fun, playing jazz with your backing tracks on my Yamaha Clavinova. "Dolphin Dance" is one of most challenging stuff (as "Voyage" is as well) but I get it :) Thanks a lot, Roger! I'm waiting for new tutorials and midi files on your website.
