  • Because it had become too expensive to repair. It needed lots of upgrading. It had become hazardous to safety. The new park is beautiful! If you haven't gone to Comerica Park for a game yet...you owe it to yourself.

  • I know...you're right. But I must say that if you haven't been to the new stadium, I strongly urge you to go. Get yourself a ticket next year and go. It helps eliminate the bad taste of a loss. It's a beautiful new stadium and I must say that I'm proud to have it in Detroit.

  • Hey Roscoe, thank you for posting all the vids of the demise of the old ballpark! It truly is sad to see it go,but Comerica park is a beautiful ballpark.Hopefully they can make more history.Go Tigers!!!

  • I'm sorry, I replied to you with a message that should have gone to someone else who asked me about the "brown" building next to the stadium. Thanks for the comments and I agree with you...Comerica Park is a beautiful stadium. I like it a lot!

  • Wow, it's amazing how quickly they can destroy so much history. thanks for getting a shot of the field for me. I really appreciate it.

  • There was an article in yesterdays Detroit Free Press that said enough money had been raised to preserve part of the ballpark. It prevents the entire stadium from being torn down. I will keep you informed as best I can.

  • why was it demolished?...

  • Stadiums that are gone have the charm of being gone. When Tiger Stadium was demolished, it took in a brand new "spirit".

  • It's ALWAYS sad to see the old classics go...

One-by-one, they're almost all gone now. Tiger Stadium is one I thought would last forever...

  • They should keep that part standing

  • Is the stadium street sign still standing outside the main entrance? I know the demolition company covered it up, but hopefully they will leave that standing as well!

  • So many memories going all the way back to childhood, to sitting upper deck first base during Al Kaline's rookie year, to sitting left field in front of Ted Williams, to later being in a Lions halftime or two, to listening to the 1968 World Series halfway around the world on Armed Forces Radio. Thanks for posting!

  • I don't live in the Detroit area anymore but I hated knowing the stadium was deteriorating. I was always a fan of keeping the ballpark. Now that it has been partially demolished, I'm not sure I even like the idea of preserving that portion. I liked Tiger Stadium in its glory - back when it was in use. This looks like a lost child looking for a parent. I have a aerial view of Tiger Stadium on my bedroom wall from the last game. Amazing view of the stadium and the nearby downtown skyline.

  • What are the current plans for the site?
