This is the "official" entry for the "David Suzuki Digs My Garden" project.

The topsoil layer of many home lawns is too thin to sustain standard turf grass without extra watering and fertilization. The subsoil may have too much clay, sand, gravel, or construction debris to assist the thin top soil that supports the lawn cover.

This is a demonstration of how to build up the topsoil layer a little at a time using "top dressing" and "over seeding". By applying a thin layer of top dressing, the existing turf doesn't get smothered. This process can be done every year until the topsoil layer is thick enough to sustain the chosen ground cover.
