[Watch in HD] The Official (Memphis) Jookin Documentary featuring UDIG Dance Academy. Hidden from the world for over two decades, Jookin', (aka Buckin', Choppin') is a dance style unlike any you've ever seen. Born from the streets of Memphis, TN, it has created a culture and an underground art form known only to this city, until now. Headed by the instructors and members of the UDIG Dance Academy, the Jookin' community within Memphis has united to take their passion and expression to the world. These dancers have started a movement to gain recognition for their revolutionary style and for their city, while striving to provide a positive outlet for inner city youth. Visually enchanting dance moves, intense energetic battles, and passionate characters: Memphis Movement-Jookin: the Urban Ballet is sure entertainment for dance enthusiasts and non dance fans alike. As of August 2009 The film is in the very final stages of post- production and has began submissions into select film festivals. The goal is worldwide distribution to bring Jookin to fans and those still unaware. Visit www.myspace.com/MemphisDance for more info. Also visit www.udigjookin.com and Memphisjookin.com. • not trying to sound racial or anything, but was that a old white man jookin?

  • if you are talking about at 1:18 in the trailer that's a mask on Rico...lol... it's a persona.."Shoesocky" or however you spell it

  • To me this dance style goes way back, but it also has aspects of it that isn't originated in Memphis. This dance looks like what I see done by pop and locking dancers. The similarities between the two art forms are almost mirror images.

  • Yeah there are elements of pop locking and other styles incorporated in the dance, but the way that the style as a whole is done is uniquely Memphian. Its evolved a lot over the years and still is.
