It's Sunny! Talking Cockatiel

Sunny can't understand why the budgies don't talk to him. He finally has the last words at the end though, don't worry!

**People have asked about Sunny's vocab, so I'm putting up his current list:
Hi, Hi Sunny, Hi Scott, what are you doing, touchdown, braaa bock bock bock (chicken),such a pretty bird, all the pretty ferrets sing la la la, pretty ferrets, Tika Tika Tika!, what, Comere, Comere Sunny comere comere, awwwe Sunny, bad kitty meow, Oh Sunny sunny sunny its a sunny oooooooh, Im busy, I'm a busy bird he whistles the following: Nights in White Satin, La Cockaracha, Would you like to Swing on a Star,the charge call followed by "charge", a bomb falling followed by "dead budgie", He makes kissy noises and kisses, he also tries to say give me a kiss and then gives you a big mwa on the mouth, he does a dirty laugh Huh-hahaha.
--- How to teach your bird to talk ---
- Pick two, 1-3 word phrases
- Repeat those over and over, 10+ minutes several times a day
- Say the word exactly the same everytime. Pick a tone, a musical intonation and stick with only that.
- Use a middle voice. Do NOT use a high pitched voice or your teil will just whistle things. Don't use a deep, manly voice either, that may be too low. A tenor male voice or an alto female voice.
- Make everyone in the house help
- Record yourself on something (windows recorder on your computer, and play it looping on Media Player), and whenever you aren't home put it on
- Pair your word(s) with an action, that is when it is most effective. Plus your bird will learn langauge not just mimic. Ex "Hi" when you enter a room or go up to hisf ace, "Ut Oh" if he hits something with is beak, "Kiss" when you kiss him, etc..
Remember many parrots need to be at least 1 year old before they start talking (but still try to teach them before then. Never give up. It might take weeks, but it also might take months for them to pick up something. If it doesn't work, try a new word(s).

Hi, I love watching sonny! , I got my first tiel who is handraised about 2 months now. He's still bald on the head. Really cute and loves attention. I've been trying to train him to talk. He makes alot of noise, I keep saying the same thing to him over and over again "hi, what are you doing? where's pat?" and he still cant seem to get it right. Any tips? is he on the right tract? Am i pushing him too hard?

@DEENA8519 He's an "infant", not just a baby! :D So he will not be talking for quite a long while. Some talking species of parrot cannot speak til nearly a year old. This can include cockatiels but usually it doesn't apply. Many speak long before. I wouldnt' look for talking until he is six months old. BUT, still do exactly what you are doing! Okay? Your doing great! Click "more" under the movie and tips on teaching them to talk are there.

I grew up with various budgies in our house... Hari, our most recent budgie, passed on late in 1991. But after viewing many cockatiel clips on YouTube, I believe it's time to, errr, upgrade to a 'Tiel! Sunny has spoken to me and all the pretty ferrets have indeed sung! Thanks!

@TheOrganiston9th you know what I say about tiels? Given the right attention if you get them as tots, they can be the "perfect" bird everyone seeks. Sunny rides our shoulder EVERYWHERE in public. People love him. Look at the other movies of him snuggling up to hubbys face. He does it all! Get a baby. Handraised by a PRIVATE breeder (no stores. It's cheaper and way better too). Those first weeks, hold him, hold him, hold him. Get a boy so he'll talk well. Keep in touch if you like!

Ur bird is adorable and I appricate the helpful info about how to teach ur cockatiel to talk, Me and my Fiance' just got ourselves a baby 12 week old cockatiel and we picked him out because he was very voical and friendly, we are hoping to teach him some phases. :)
