Sorry for all the "ums" and "ahs", I haven't done a video in awhile! :)

Here's links to all the stuff I talked about (the rulers and books):

Clear ruler: http://www.amazon.com/C-thru-Ruler-B-85-18-Inch/dp/B000V59R8K (or anything similar!)
Curved ruler: http://sewtrue.com/Store/Vary-Form-Curve-P236.html (you're looking for this kind of shape, sort of sword-like!)
Patternmaking for Fashion Design: http://www.amazon.com/Patternmaking-Fashion-Design-Joseph-Armstrong/dp/013606... (this is 5th edition, which is cheaper than my older edition for some reason!)
Draping for Apparel Design: http://www.amazon.com/Draping-Apparel-Design-Helen-Joseph-Armstrong/dp/156367...

If you're looking for a professional dressform, look for "Wolf dressforms" (wolfform.com). Mine is called a "MyDouble" dressform; it's mostly for fitting garments to your specific measurements, I've draped a few garments on it and the professional forms are definitely better! But don't stress if you can't get one or don't know anyone with one, it's definitely a big investment! The alternative for draping I'm going to show you will only require a pattern purchase, no hundreds-of-dollars dress form :)

The dress on the dressform was NOT made by me (I wish!). It's by the Japanese brand Angelic Pretty.

  • did you make that dress behind you ?

  • @LolxLoveMe I wish! It's from a Japanese brand called Angelic Pretty :)

  • Hey. I love your video's! And your hair looks great like this :)

I am wondering if those books are ok for menswear? I only want to do menswear. Thanks, Chris UK

  • @CJEChurchill These books actually BARELY cover menswear, unfortunately....I think you'd need specialized books for those, basically all of the books I've seen deal almost exclusively in womenswear.

  • appreciate your video! i'm trying to buy one of those expensive dress forms, would you recommend a size 2 or 4? what do design schools mostly use?? are these sizes the same as regular clothing sizes?

  • @juonee90 A size 2 is a good "model" size, but in my experience design schools will have a variety of sizes for you to work with! So don't worry too much about having the "right" size. And there's really no standardization of clothing sizes, which is really frustrating. A size 8 dress form might fit a modern size 8, but if you look in a book with retro measurements, you'll see that a modern 8 is like a retro 16! All brands have slightly different sizing too, I really wish there was a standard!

  • this video was really helpful!

but i was just curious, are the books worth getting and easy to understand? because I'm only 14, and I'm working towards fashion designing and there's no pattern making classes in my town :(

  • There are several tutorials online for making your own dress form using either duct tape or water-activated packing tape. The latter is preferable because duct tape will gum up your pins.

  • @LolxLoveMe It looks like Angelic Pretty's Dreaming Macaron

  • Thanks for this great series! By the way, what's the difference between a vary form ruler and a curve stick and do I need both?

  • Hi I just wanted to ask could you make a video for sewing and drawing again? I just started watching your videos.
