bilieve it or not, but i know her really well. she is my moms bestfriend and was here roomate in college. now she isnt is pretty lol but you can still tell she won.

@trinketbox1 I was just thinking of her tonight when I glanced at the pagent. I never watch them anymore. Thank you for your response. Im sorry to hear abbout all her tragedies, but am glad to hear she has her husband and kids. She deserves a happy life.

@JACQIE77 Also, she lost a child in 2002 shortly after birth; her father has since passed away, and tragically, her brother was killed in an auto accident 6 years after her crowning. This gal has had tragedy and triumphs - a remained a real class act.

@JACQIE77 Yes - as you probably know, she was a registered nurse at the time she won. She married her high school sweetheart, Chuck Wilson, who she met picking strawberries. They are still happily married and have several children, most of which are now in their late teens. She is very active in community affairs & still the sweet girl from Monroe, Michigan - where I live.

@Augustus1225 I I think In know why Brandt didn't win. I bought the vhs tape of this pageant & what you don't see is Phil announcing right before kathie Lee starts a scoring system for the winner that is different from every other yr and only time it had changed during the pageant. It became 25% from prelims, then 25%swimsuit, 25% talent and 25%evening gown. That MAY have decreased the overall value of Brandts talent. Also, any expert will tell u, this pageant is won in the interview.

Still my all time favorite Miss Americas. I still have my autograghed MA photo of her she was kind enough to send with a Christmas card. She is such a sweet woman. I wonder how she is doing today. Anyone know?

@BarryKnightFan I think I may help you understand how Nevada placed higher. If you didn't know already, prelim scores are part of the final overall score. That yr, prelims were 25% of the total. Unlike the others you mention, Stacy won a prelim(talent), giving her higher points than non prelim winners.  ALSO, and ,most importantly, almost all Miss America's and experts will tell you that the pageant is almost always won based on the interview. It is almost like a job interview.
