  • @USAinFinland No worries. I also prefer Gram's version (and I miss Sneaky Pete's pedal steel). I don't really mind the suit since it's not an exact replica or anything. Dwight's made some good music, Buenos Noches From A Lonely Room is a favorite of mine.

  • @MitchellWilsonMusic I didn't realize Dwight is what you say he is. However, Gram's voice had so much more character and expression than Dwight's on this song. I know Gram wore the suit, that was my point to dress like him is kind of skin-deep. ...This performance in general just seems boring, ...and the overdone solo and cool-guitar-guy mannerisms of the lead guitarists....lol

  • @soul2254 Uh, Gram wore many suits as just like that. You do realize that Dwight Yoakam isn't some kind of modern pop country artist, right? He's in the same vein as people like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, who Gram idolized and without whom there would be no alt. country. In fact many consider Dwight alt. country, since he incorporates rock and (vintage) pop elements without losing sight of the music's roots. I'm more of a Gram fan but Dwight's pretty damn good.

  • @SONVOLTGIRL55 Puts more of what into it? I know it's all opinion, subject to our perspective, but I'll throw mine in there: as an artist and person I find Gram more talented and interesting than Dwight. Despite Gram's voice and substance of his songs, the fact he died before the fame and glamor makes the music all the more poignant and sacred. Does Dwight pay TRUE tribute by reflecting that? I don't think so...too much self-promotion for a Gram Parsons tribute. Bad taste, man.

  • Aww, man...the suit?! No wonder country has a bad rep for taste. Thank God for alt country.

I figure a fitting tribute to Gram Parsons would emphasize substance more and facade less.

But it's ok, it is what it is.

  • I'm sorry...but his stunk. Worst version of Wheels I've ever heard! The guitar solo was completely inappropriate and overblown. I like Dwight Yoakam, but hope I never hear this garbage again. Besides....Emmy Lou Harris OWNS this song! (best version)

  • I am huge fan of both Dwight and Gram (actually probably my top two of all time) so I couldn't possibly compare...they are both extremely special and talented artists...,,if I had a serious bucket list...a date with Dwight wld be at number 1..probably best I'm not serious bout the list...given the odds of it happening.

  • Nice!!~

  • Straight up butchered it.

  • Dwight is great and always has a great band.... this doesn't compare to the

Burrito Brothers.... no Sneaky Pete or Chris Ethridge the guys who added the

unique drive to the great songwriting of the Burrito's.

  • @superfluppy1 .....Keith Gattis has been playing with Dwight this summer. Have to agree that he about the itch......maybe that's where his B-bender is attached......

  • @SONVOLTGIRL55 I'm not pissed off, but I will say you are comparing apples to oranges, my friend.

  • Not to mention that he played all over his vocal line...a Nashville NONO..

  • Kieth Gattis... is a great lead guitarist. ..but I think Dwight replaced him because when Kieth performs he acts like he's got a terrible itch on his balls but can't scratch at the time....lmao!!....seriously.

  • Dogbark, I believe that's Keith Gattis (hope I got the spelling right). I think he played with Dwight for a while, after Pete Anderson left.

  • Man, such a great song, best rendition I've heard.

  • Great song, thanks.

Who is the guitar player with the "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" T-Shirt, playing the B string bender.

  • Unbelievable. Shame about the little choppy parts.

  • Whooo Hoooo! I also have this on Nitty Gritty Dirt Band vol 3 or 4(??)

Thank you x2009 so very much for posting this great vid!
