The one thing one must keep in mind is the strength of the frame the wheel or hub is attached to. The new hub's torque can easily damage an aluminum fork or composite fork when in operation. This could be catastrophic to the rider who just installed the conversion kit. Keep in mind the forces at work. This is why you mostly see heavier steel framed type mountain type bikes inheriting these kits and not the lighter road bikes.

@Drdump1 Conservation of energy. Those pesky laws of physics.
why not try (less revolution) front drive motor with bigger diameter wheel 26" and the 2nd rear Charging motor with bigger Watt n Current on smaller 24" wheel (turn faster) to generate back electricity into the Battery. Both motor with 1Way DC Blocking Diode". So U might get "more travelling DISTANCE without charging it regulary at home !!

@Drdump1 That is what is fun about making your own electric bike, you can try out ideas like that and see how they work. If your idea works out, you may have something the world is really looking for right now.

I wonder how this would compare to a Busettii Electric bike ? They run 60 miles on a charge and weigh about 55 lbs. so that seems like its better. I see them at busettii.com web page. Any one ever rode a Busettii ?? Rainbow

@doubletriplerainbow Complete bikes are a good option, too. They usually trade off speed for range. In most states, complete bikes are limited to 20mph top speed. Kit bikes can be much faster. If you ride the kit bike at a low speed and with the right battery, you can get that kind of range on a kit bike.

Can we do the same on the Dahon Eco 3 folding bike?

@jfryda It is a tight fit, and you need to get a motor made for a small wheel, but it can be done.
