On this day in 1967 {January 28th} the Standells performed "Dirty Water" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand'...
Nine months earlier on April 28th, 1966 it entered the Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #11 and spent 16 weeks on the Top 100...
Fourteen years later in 1980 the Inmates took their covered version to #51 on the Top 100...
The group's one time drummer Dewey Martin passed away on January 31st, 2009 at the age of 68...
R.I.P. Mr. Martin and Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}...

Singer Dick Dodd will be reuniting with the Standells at the Monterey Summer Festival of Love, September 29th!
Dodd, who sang such Standells hits as “Dirty Water” and “Sometimes Good Guys Don’t Wear White” will be the Standells special guest. He'll be joining other original members keyboardist Larry Tamblyn and bassist John Fleckenstein, plus guitarist Mark Adrian and drummer Greg Burnham

I love the garage music style but.......it´s the first time I´m listening to this band. Interesting because we were, at that period, "flooded" by rock music from England. (I´m from Scandinavia). My hobby is to discover all the great unknown bands from the mid 60s. Check, for example, up THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Irresistible f....g, bloody "drive".

Hard to believe but over-all, this band had better hair than the Beatles.

Boston/Cambridge and all the suburbs. Great town. Lived there briefly in 1971 not far from Harvard Square.
