@allengarvin He probably plays more than just old-time style of fiddle, which doesn't necessarily require use of the chin rest. If you were playing modern bluegrass, you would want to use the chin rest.

Rafe's a killer fiddler... but I don't understand why, if he's gonna play it down on his chest like that... why does he need a chin rest? It just adds needless weight to the fiddle.
