If the definition of legalism is "Trying to be saved by doing good things," then it is impossible for a saved person to be legalistic.......... I doubt it.
One is born again at the moment of justification, repenting and placing your trust in Christ. Paul talks about being a new creation (2 Cor 5:17 & Gal 6:15) Sanctification process is not done until you die. During sanctification (the rest of your time in your current body) Christians won't be sinless (Rom 3:23), but are exhorted to sin less. 1 Pet 1:23 is talking to alive people who are born again not dead ones. It sounds like you are saying that we are not truly born again until we are dead.
@TrueCore08 Some christians do sin, but those who are born again do not. Remember...Many are called but the chosen are few. I have videos on 1John1:8 and Romans 7 if needed. Thank you dearly.
@TrueCore08 Once you are a partaker of his divine nature, the chastisement stops. WHY? Because you are no longer sinning, having his divine nature.1John3:9. Being pregnant does not guarantee that life will be brought forth. Only after a baby is born can we say birth has taken place. Same with the sanctification process.
@TrueCore08 Sanctification is a process but one is not born again until the process of sanctification is complete. Just as it is literally. A baby is born when the pregnancy process is complete. The santification process includes the chastisement of a soul that he MAY be a partaker of His divine nature.
You shouldnt use the word legalism or rules when talking about this issue, because the inspired writer Paul did not us them. Pauls teaching is simple. We are not justified by the demands of the law of Moses. Many Jews still have this problem today as Saul did before he was Paul. Keeping the commands of Christ proves ones love
Thank you for this, Pastor Mike! There are a lot of videos here crying "Legalist!" to those of us who are simply prompted by the Holy Spirit with the desire to do God's will.
By the way, I caught one part of your series "Passing the Baton" on the way to church one morning on KKLA a few weeks ago, and it was excellent! Today I found your website, and downloaded the whole series. Thank you for your faithful preaching & offering the free downloads - surely you have beautiful feet! :-)
legalism = strict adherence, or the principle of strict adherence, to law or prescription, especially to the letter rather than the spirit.
