This video is basically this blog post in video form
http://bit.ly/5SNc1Z

I felt like before I went any further, I'd lay out some "first principles" as clearly as I could.

These are observations. This is not dogma. This is not a creed.

This is not a denial of the significance of any experiences people may possibly think of as "spiritual," merely an assertion that these experiences have a naturalistic/materialistic explanation.

"sources": Ravi Zacharias (specifically, "Deliver Us From Evil"), TheAmazingAtheist, George Carlin ("It's Bad For Ya"), Immanuel Kant (wikipedia page), "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins, observation.

  • in a way, there are not even "facts" since what passes for a fact is contingent upon some sort of normative standard. so if you reject normativity, everything is sucked into a void.

to clarify, i don't mean to strawman or troll you. just some thoughts on the impression i got from what you're saying here.

  • @fede2 says you... "normative" and "positive" aren't the same thing, right?

  • @AdderallApocalypse no, i don't believe so. why?

  • @fede2 oh, well, I don't have to accept "normativity" to talk about the "positive," right?

  • If philosophy were a lake, I could describe this video as skipping a stone across the surface, chuckling, and walking away. Take the time to swim in it, explain yourself. You made a short-winded rant without any depth or empirical evidence and tagged the video with a very wide array of terms to reach a curious audience. I do respect the origins and the truth behind some of your statements, but I can see how this video would fuel the natural scared aversion to philosophy many people have.

  • @AidenApocalypse um, thanks for the comment... so, what do you call it when a person just makes comments on other peoples' videos [blah] apparently not taking into consideration their larger "body of work"? [blah] but still, I guess I'll eventually have to make a video "clarifying" this one [blah] I eagerly look forward to any videos you may create in the future[?]

  • You look like a Guy Fawkes mask.

  • For someone who says there is no truth, you seem to make some very absolute statements.

  • i agreewith all you said :D

  • That was extremely Anthropocentric. I agree with Kant, however, you brought up the great point that we naturally use each other as a means to an end.

  • Emanuel Kant can...blow me lol:))))

  • I like how you start, "There is no truth". So, what you are saying is not true. Thanks for telling me. Jesus loves you. That is truth.

  • Nope. after hearing that im still not thinking about it. All i know God created us and that you really need him in your life.

  • Yay for assertions without backing! From the perspective of our genes, we are only means to an end? Ever heard of the naturalistic fallacy? It sounds like you've read The Selfish Gene, ignored Dawkins' advice not to look at it as a source of morality, and then stopped there. Turns out the issue is more complex! What does it matter what our genes see us as? Our genes can tell us where our morals come from, but they cannot tell us what they are.

  • @AdderallApocalypse sorry, i'm not sure i fallow. anyway, what's with the tone, man? could you relax? i'm not assaulting you.
