  • The smoke is the oil and sometimes fuel that accumulates in the cowling, these radial engines throw out a fair bit of the stuff and the smokey start is due to inefficient combustion till the engine warms up, the smoke this one generates is nothing compared to the Lockheed Super Constellation I work on.
