l used to listen to this when l was driving home from a nursing night shift. lt meant a lot to me when someone had died....it signified the break of a brand new day. When my own father died earlier this year, it signified courage

This is the main reason why I love this woman. Along with being absolutely gorgeous, she expresses the pain and agony of this piece so beautifully through her amazing voice. Its an absolutely amazing recording.

for me the most beautiful song of Mahler (followed bij Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen) and together with the Dieskau recordings of these 2 songs, the top of the world.

Not any obvious ones, but Maureen Forrester comes to mind. She was chosen by Bruno Walter to sing Mahler after Ferrier's premature death.
