This really is a fantastic port of R-Type, given the extreme hardware limitations of the ZX. My hat goes off to the programmers of it =)

Please bring back 1987/88 so I can relive my youth

this is really good - virtually no colour clash, and high detail here.

Its hard to pilot the ship and switch the fire fingers. I had cheap clone of the ZX, and its kempston joystick has one fire button on the top, and two on the base, but those were really hard to press. I barely got anywhere on a game that needed fast reaction. I getter liked Academy...or Nether Earth.

great game virtually identical to the original, unfortunately non as good as this, on my c64.. Spectrum fans, have fun!!

Man, getting there got my firing finger numb.

@zver711 Never suffered that myself back then although I have no feeling in my hands nowadays. I just swap between fingers to give them a rest.

That Stage 4 can be a real pain with the enemies making all those dots, and it does come down to memorization, but here's a tip: don't use the bouncing laser here, as it'll only bounce off the dots without clearing them away. In most of the no-death runs of R-Type I've seen on YouTube the player sticks with the red-blue wave blaster in the later stages, and if you watch these videos you'll see there are relatively safe spots you can use during the boss fights. Best of luck to you, Spinny!

I found a combination of both suits my style of gameplay. The laser is not the best weapon to use on the end of level boss though. I will try and scrape my way through to the end, hopefully.
