Most phones in Japan are flip clamshell phones. They are now getting so thin that this one uses a button on the side to open it and features a mirror on the front making it effectively no different from a women's compact make-up mirror.

I think because of the iPhone here in the United States we've gotten addicted to flat brick phones as I call it, I would totally buy a flip phone here in New York but it seems like the only popular ones are flat ones😢
