A high-octane novelty number from Rudy & the Connecticut Yankees...it's not known whether Kitty hailed from the Kansas or Missouri side of the great divide. ;)

KITTY FROM KANSAS CITY
(Harry Rose / Jesse Greer)

Her name was Kitty, from Kansas City,
Sure was a pity she wasn't pretty,
She's not so hard to see,
She weighs two-forty three,
I hope she doesn't get much fatter,
But if she does, that doesn't matter;
Kitty from Kansas City,
Now there's a girl that I adore,

She's so dumb, she doesn't know a thing,
Why, she thinks that July the Fourth is an English King!
I love her, I love her, that's easy to see
It's Kansas City Kitty for me.

Well, she's so dumb, her brain is in a whirl,
Why, she thinks that Babe Ruth, is a chorus girl!
I love her, I love her, that's easy to see,
It's Kansas City Kitty for me!

Why she's so dumb, she really is a dear,
Why she thinks that "Eli, Eli" is a college cheer,
I love her, I love her, that's easy to see,
It's Kansas City Kitty for me!

Her name was Kitty, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty from Kansas City,
Sure was a pity she wasn't pretty,
Hey, Hey I love her just because,
She's not the girl she was,
She can cook, and she can wash,
But when she makes her love,
Oh, Gosh!
It's Kitty from Kansas City,
Now there's a girl that I adore,

She's so dumb, some times I almost cry,
Why, she thinks that Sing Sing is a lullaby!
I love her, I love her, that's easy to see,
It's Kansas City Kitty for me!

Well, she's so dumb, it really is a shame,
Why she thinks that Muscle Shoals is a boxer's name,
I love her, I love her, that's easy to see,
It's Kansas City Kitty for me!

Well, she's so dumb, sometimes it almost kills,
Why she thought Rudy Vallee was a place between two hills!
I love her, I love her, that's easy to see,
It's Kansas City Kitty for me!

Well she's so dumb, she gives me an awful cramp,
Why she thinks that an Israelite is an electric lamp,
I love her, I love her, that's easy to see--It's Kansas City Kitty for Me!

  • I love Rudy's versatility. This is delightful and SHEER FUN! Love the lyrics,

"Rudy Vallee was a place between two hills" :),

I love HIM..... I love HIM!

Thank you RR, this was SWELL!

  • Goodness, genia--that Vallee charisma must have some bodacious follow-through to captivate y'all 77 years after the original. ;)

Also, check out that "Screen Song No.47" clip up to the right--Rudy & Betty Boop make a lovely couple!

  • @highnrising

I asked my mom years ago as she grew up w/ this music. The line is "Aley Aley" not sure of the spelling. I can't remember what that means but Kitty gets it confused with "Eli Eli" which students from Yale would (don't know if they stil do) cheer. Rudy Vallee got a philosphy degree from Yale

  • Does anybody know what 80-80 really is?

("...she thinks 80-80 is a college cheer.")

  • Awesome!

  • "but when she makes her love oh god"

HAHAH, genius, just genius. Thanks for posting!

  • Hi,

This song was very special for my Father, although I don't know why. I took me a while to find out the exact title of this song, I only had a copy on a cassette tape that belong to my Dad.

My Dad, who was a art-painter, died in 1996. Since then, this song is also special to me.

    Thanks for posting !!

  • Thanks. When I've told friends about this song, they think I'm bullsh*tting them.

Glad to finally have found this for my proof.

  • It must have been nice to live before the dour feminists took over. I always liked this song. "she thinks that Mussel Shoals is a boxer's name."

  • What a great preformance!

    Hilarious lyrics.

    Thank you for posting it!

  • This is great! I have a hilarious version of this song by Milt Coleman on a Velvet Tone record with somewhat alternate lyrics and a ukelele.
