'Be My Love' This is block chord tutorial for jazz piano. Using this song, first several improvised choruses demonstraing a mixture of voicing techniques that utilize chords spread over 2 hands, voiced together as single blocks. This contrasts with the other common jazz piano technique of playing melodically with the right hand while the left 'comps' (short for 'accompanies' or is it an abbreviation for 'complements'?), supporting the right hand harmonically and rhythmically.

  • Thanks Doug. Listening to this reminds me of Sammy Cahn's TV interviews with "Parky" your interpretations put extra sparkle into a North Wales winter morning...all the best etc.

  • Seems like Bill Evans, known for his beautiful single note solos, with those beautiful mid-range clusters and wide-spaced three note chords, ended his solos usually with his playing block chords. Am I right? BTW, some primo piano playing...I learned a lot...thanks!! Sammy would love it (my father and he were good friends)...

  • Seriously, thanks man....Im a college student and love piano and am always trying to find things to help me improve...thanks for the low cost....free!

  • Oh, this is just lovely!!! Could you come to my house and play me a private party! Just you playing for just me! Kidding of course, but that is just so relaxing! A massage for the ears! . . . wink!

  • Love it! Amazing Tutorial and easy to follow. This improves my playing a lot!

  • I agree with MrBruno1935........Exactly what I like too! Your playing has such an amazing flow and elegance. The improvs are never just a bunch of random notes that lead nowhere, but rather they seem to paint a colorful picture. Thanks for the great sound and your wonderful videos.

  • Dear Doug, your chordings in this song are just marvelous. Exactly what I like.

    Keep swingin´

    Bruno
