0:04 - On
0:08 - (This strobing is the camera)
0:16 - Dark flickering on central column
0:30 - Picture persistance (right side) on channel change
0:45 - Worse flickering
1:05 - Flicker now has distinguishable rows

2 years perfect operation (aside from clouding)
TV in original position since unpacked
Power thru a surge protector powerboard
Turning off/on doesn't fix; all channels affected
Room temp is a cool 15 degrees celcius (59F)

After 5 minutes the flickering stops, presumably after backlight has 'warmed up' .

  • I'll have to drop Sony a line and see if they're willing to fix it. The effects are much worse now however, but I've found a stop-gap solution:a swift karate chop to the top right plastic speaker grill (sometimes a few chops). Every night I come home and smack the crap out of my television!

  • My 46" KDL is producing the same horizontal lines like yours, mostly as it is warming up. I was assuming it is the backlight failing.

  • @tiredfingers99 Is this something that can be replaced? Would they be on the power board? and where could I find these transistors

  • Guys forget doing this fix. Ring Sony and they will replace the screen for free. Just had my 12/2007 KDL46X3500 repaired in the UK. They extended the warranty on these to Oct 2012. Good luck.

  • i found it on u tube ok ////ok it a ribbon that connects to tv from top right corner 2 inch from corner right top i took back off and pushed front of tv and back together and it works fine if you take off front panel you can see it and put something there to push on ribbon to make better contact on connection it s just a lose connection lol all this time going nuts over this i hate sony lol

  • well i just have same problem but i twist the tv and i get video back to normal top right corner it is a short but cant find it yet will post when i find it lol

  • There are inverters that have 4 transistors that are turning on and off which create an ac signal that is necessary for the flourescent lamps to work. When the transistor closes it discharges that caps which release there charge and this puts a great deal of stress on the caps, this happens hundreds of times a minute. Your flickering is this cap not discharging because it is nearing its end of life cycle and needs to be replaced. cost about $5

  • This seems to be a problem with ALL 46 inch versions of the TV, either they have this "ghost" problem, or the flashing back light problem/ 3 lines through out the screen. Mine has the initial start up problem, where the 3 lines stay on screen for about 20 minutes, and sometimes it does it after woods with flashing lines everywhere for about 5 minutes. The only good thing is, that luckily they are only a temporally thing and go away after a short time.

  • @Chadnaut hey, i have literally the exact same problem right now, however my warranty is up, what did sony tell you???? please respond, thank you.

  • heres what you do unsrew the back of the tv and then go to the nearest gasoline station spill the gas inside your tv and burn it simple like that...

  • @bl1ng3rz

your post was awesome! You hit it on the head. I just had a repair man come over who couldn't even explain that to me and charged me $200. I called sony and they are working on it for me. Thank you a ton! Not sure where it will end up, but thanks for the tip....huge!!! I needed a boost after being so upset it would fail so early.
