The mysterious scene where a lady asks for a glass of water.

1) The agent gets her a glass full of water.
2) Lady drinks nothing, there's no glass in her hand, for sure.
3) Lady puts an empty glass over the table.
4) Glass appears half-full on the next scene.
5) DiCaprio and Ruffalo ask themselves if Lady is related to David Blaine.

Video uploaded with no intention of breaking laws or copyright infringement. Just for fun and to elucidate that people watching it are not going crazy: "no, you're right, that lady wasn't holding a glass!"

  • What a ridiculous assumption, just because this movie is based around him being mentally unstable does not hide the fact they made a mistake. If that's the case, any movie that portrays an deranged antisocial personality disorder has permission to make idiotic mistakes, because that's what the movie is about, really? He seemed to overcome his repressed fear of water when he used some to swallow his aspirin pills.

  • @SaosinComeClose Saosin, how many time you went to drink a glass of water and, suddenly, didn't pick up the glass and started to drink from an imaginary glass on your hands? Oh, and you even swallowed the imaginay water!

Is it really a normal behaviour in your life? Cause I just can't see how a person wouldn't notice that "oops, I forgot to pick up the glass and I even drank some imaginary water! I'm so distracted sometimes..."

Seems more like you're a big troll. And I really hope you are.

  • Wtf was this recorded from a gameboy?

  • @22soultaker Wtf was this commented by a troll?

  • So why don't we see the glass?

Those who've seen the film know teddy can't handle reality, he represses his fears and memories until he loses all sense of time/identity.

Notice the camera when the lady is drinking, it is shot entirely from the perspective of Teddy. We're seeing this through his eyes. His fear of water is a major theme in the film; It is essentially what killed his children. So by doing this, Scorsese is further showing Teddy's repression of his fears, I.E water.

    Hope that helps!

  • @22soultaker How DARE you?! This was recorded by a Gameboy COLOR!

Well, in all seriousness, I agree with the Chapter81 as far as the symbolism VS mistake argument. The film director certainly did NOT allow an actor to drink from an imaginary glass if it was supposed to be real. The movie is full of symbolism. Case solved.

  • @SaosinComeClose Seems somewhat too intentional to me to be a mistake. Scorcese is a very experienced director. It might not be about his repressed fear of water, but it's certainly a great close reading detail with regard to his construction of the reality surrounding him.

  • can any1 help me ? i hv few doubts 1stly if teddy is afraid of water why did he eventually go dwn d cliff 2 see if chunch is alive or dead.? 2ndly the lady whu teddy meets (whu claims she is d real racheal solando ) is she really d real 1?? 3rdly why is d start set up lyk teddy cumin whd chunk 2 shutter island whn actually he is a patient there..is it tht dy purposely create a situation of racheal dissapearin 2 help teddy?? i mi8 sound fool n dumb bt i wud b happy if any1 helps me on diz ! :)

  • @oxyid66 It was a troll, hard man.

  • @SaosinComeClose prick!

  • @Chapter81 I do it all the time, even with food and oxygen. Sometimes I breath in but nothing happens and I feel light headed, this makes me feel faint. So I have a word with myself in the mirror and tell myself I can do it, that I'm just like everyone else, but then I remember I'm a freak.
