well i bought the neck... other than that i designed it, built it and tweaked it. mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard. emg 81 bridge pickup. floyd rose copy. and some dodgy paint. however i like it :) i was going for my own take of the jackson RR's and i didnt have the most specialist of tools. most of the cavities were dont with a mallet and chisel, the pickup hole was done with a mortis machine at school.

  • in my opinion you made a pretty big mistake, you've used a EMG neck pick-up instead of and EMG bridge one...anyway sound nice

  • @buckethead21zzz neck pickup? ive only ever seen an EMG81 used as a bridge pick up? usually 81 bridge 85 neck. sometimes i have seen 81 in neck and bridge. and thank you!

  • @razorrick1293 Someday I would like someone to explain the profound difference in the way the coils are wound for a neck pickup compared to a bridge pickup, since the magnetic fields should theoretically be the same.

I'm currently building my first guitar. I hope it comes out as nicely as yours.

  • @Hikikomori013 as i know, they are pretty much wound the same, the main tonal difference comes with the difference in harmonics, eg. the parts of the string closer to the bridge would generally have more upper harmonics as the movement is restricted by the bridge, causing a trebly sound, where the strings over the neck pickup are much more unrestricted and so can generate a lot more low end harmonics. the pickups can then be wound accordingly, good luck with your build :)

  • How did you get the exact distance from bridge to nut ?

  • @Thermionman1970 distance Bridge to 12th fret = distance 12th fret to nut.

    e.g. on a 25" scale, nut to 12th fret =12.5", 12th fret to bridge=12.5"

if youve got adjustable sadles youve got a slight margin for error.

(measurements should be taken to where the string sits on the bridge)
