@brilyn I was generalizing yes, but only to a degree similar to what's required to make any Savage Love reply generic enough to apply to its fans. It wouldn't be an accessible advice column if all answers were mega-personalized and tailored only to that specific person asking for advice. Factoring in every little nuance that creates the individual's situation isn't the task. Dan has to generalize broadly. I was doing the same. Of course I'm aware there are exceptions. I'm mindful. :)

Some odd perspectives in the comments. If she likes the fellow, and is no longer satisfied with their relationship, why wouldn't she try to renegotiate their deal? It's like going in and asking for a raise at a job you know you won't keep at your current salary.
Also, JLoveBomb, I highly doubt that every single man runs from a woman who says she loves him. It's not like men never fall in love.

@JLoveBomb Absolutely. Because all guys are the same. There is nothing to distinguish one guy from any other, and because one guy is a douche, it therefore follows that all guys are douches.
Here's an excellent rule of thumb: if you make a general statement about 'guys' or 'girls' or 'chinese people': you're wrong. It's really that simple. There is too much diversity within the human race for these stupid groupings to make accurate predictions.
