This short newsreel, produced for the home market, shows the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown as it launches B-25 bomber aircraft on the Doolittle Raid against Tokyo, Japan. Features footage of practice runs made by the bomber crews and other training. It also contains footage of Capt. Marc Mitscher, Gen. Jimmy Doolittle, Admiral Halsey, Gen. Hap Arnold, raiders T.W. Lawson and H.F. Watson, and Madame Chaing Kai-shek. One interesting aspect of the film is that it utilizes footage from a Japanese air raid newsreel, that was shot months before the Doolittle Raid as part of a drill.
There were many amazing, almost unbelievable feats of valour & glory in WW2 by the Western Allies, & in particular, the USA, with its famous, venerable "adjust, improvise, can do" attitude. None are more famous or worthy than this raid by Jimmy Doolittle & his brave band of flyers. Also "Mitscher The Magnificent" .. Marc A. Mitscher, Hornet Capt. God Bless 'em all, Lest We Forget. Great upload, & thank you for preserving their memory for the benefit of more current generations.

In April, 2010, I had the pleasure of meeting three of the Doolittle Raiders at their 68th annual reunion at Dayton, Ohio. True heros, every one.

At 2:05, the planes depicted are Beechcraft AT-11 Kansans, which were Beech 18s modified for bomber training. One of the lesser-known planes of WW2.

@alanheath3 He and Gen. Doolittle had medals given to them by the Japanese, prior to the war. Watch again and you'll see them stringing the medals together with a wire and then attaching the wire to the tailfins of one of the bombs to be dropped on Japan.

Very interesting film. I dont understand the bit about Marc Mitscher returning his decoration via the raid though.
