Paint the inside of an aquarium with roofing tar. After it dries, fill it like you normally would with water and fish. If the fish dies, you know your soil will be poisoned too..I'm j/k, don't kill any fish you don't plan on eating or feeding to something.
Why do you think "they" tell you not to use rain water from your roof if your roofing material is made out of petroleum based products...b/c carcinogens leech out of the materials. Just another way of introducing toxins into our environment
