Get Loud For Loud Shirt Day!! REGISTER your workplace or organization to take part in Loud Shirt Day and have a great time getting loud with your colleagues and raising money to help deaf children! Presented by Alessandro Sorbello http://www.alessandrosorbello.com On Loud Shirt Day everyone wears their loudest and brightest shirts to work and donates to give deaf children a voice.
The Morning Program helped celebrate Loud Shirt Day when the gentleman who has done more to promote loud shirts than any other visited Concordia College. Sportscaster Peter Walsh even lent one of his shirts to reporter Tim Noonan who joined him for the big day. They were in for a treat.
Listen in to the broadcast below and hear the song by Georgia Germein, award winning Concordia music student and Loud Shirt Day youth ambassador. She can really sing and wrote a song especially for Loud Shirt Day. You can also meet Andrew Kennett Smith, a student who is deaf and receives a service from the Cora Barclay Centre.
Loud Shirt Day encourages people to put on their loudest shirt (or purchase a sticker) and make a donation to help deaf children get the best available therapy. Funds raised went to South Australia's award winning, not-for-profit, Cora Barclay Centre, which provides vital therapy, professional counselling, family support and mentoring for deaf children and their families.
This year, 750 students at Concordia College joined thousands of other schools and businesses across the state in celebrating Loud Shirt Day. Hopefully you can celebrate by giving your ears a treat listening to Georgia's song, and reflect on lucky we are to be able to hear such things.
Many people aren't aware that deafness is Australia's most common disability in
children at birth with one child in every 300 born deaf.
By raising vital funds on Loud Shirt Day you will be helping children who are deaf and
hearing-impaired to develop clear natural spoken language so they may fully participate in
their local community, school and the hearing world.
There are five Centres throughout Australia that teach children to achieve spoken
communication through intensive infant and preschool programs. These programs assist
children in acquiring speech and language with the use of appropriate listening devices (eg,
hearing aids or cochlear implants).
From diagnosis, therapists work to build a child's listening and speaking skills from infancy sound by sound, syllable by syllable, word by word, achieving remarkable speech and communication skills. The first five years of a child's life are critical for language development.
The services provided enable families to gain the knowledge, understanding and confidence
needed as the primary decision-makers, caregivers and teachers of their own children. 93% of these students graduate to attend mainstream school with their hearing peers. The program saves the community over $400,000 for every child taught at these centres, as most of the children are able to progress without special schooling. This can only be achieved through the support and generosity of people like us!
