  • Hi i was wondering where did you buy the akita from?

  • Akitas never out grow playing. If you have one that likes to lead you around. Pulls on the leash. the dog is the pack leader then, you need to change that fast. these dogs are cunning, smart, and powerfully aware of everything around them. They can strike without even a hint. they can be looking the other way, an in a split second have your arm in a death grip! mine died new years day, after 11 great years.

  • so i think a big reason for my akita being so stubborn, distracted, over-protective, territorial, dominating to other dogs, and horny is because he is not fixed. i understand that naturally akitas are stubborn and dominant dogs but fixing him will help with his issues. i hope its not too late since he is almost 2...

  • a big reason i cant get kiba fixed is due to my dad reading online articles about studies done on dogs by vets that explain consiquences of neutering, inluding bone deformations, incontinence, fear, weight gain, loss of energy and other numerous issues. the stuff he reads is just unheard-of crap that rarely ever happens (its all just opinions anyway.)

you see, my dad is one of those ppl who belive everthing he reads/hears. the idiot says he'll cut the dogs balls off, but it never happens.

my akita has been getting socialized since the day we got him and we still bring him around other people and dogs as much as we can. he was at my grandma's house yesterday and acted perfectly friendly to her, but a little distant of her presence. distracting him when he sees other dogs is impossible though, until recently when i bought a headcollar, which controlls him sooooo good with pulling and puppy BS.

i pray for the day when he encounters dogs and doesnt want to play w/them

yeah, my akita is almost 2 now, and i want him to get neutered but my dad keeps hesitating and usually he doesnt have the money. my dog is not aggresive, but incredibly stubborn and puppy-like, although he seems to get better each month with listening to my commands.

the problem is that he is a very dominant/territorial dog since hes whole; this may cause problems with other dogs that try to challenge him (he went ape-s**t when a pitbull went to stare him down at a park.)

  • Also if you get your dog fixed that helps a lot with aggression... I know it doesn't sound like much fun and sounds like it would make your dog less of a man. but let me tell you, it make a big difference in training and aggression. it took a little convincing me to do it to my dog but I am glad I did. and plus it's a dog he don't know he doesn't have any balls. he'll just wake up without them and not even know. Im not kidding.

  • properly socialized. don't use dog parks for this. Things happen to fast and they are powerful dogs that will do a lot of damage with 1 bite. I recommend to meet a friend with a dog at a skating rink that is enclosed & have them sniff each other first so they get to know each other & go from there. if they don't get a long at 1st then try walking them together side by side until they feel comfortable with each other. & read their body language. that's a big clue to how they are feeling.

  • I'm sure he is a little bigger now, how are things going with him? and did you try taking some time to train & socialize him? Akita's are very stubborn dogs & need a lot training and leadership along with socialization. I have 2 & the 1st one we got didn't get as much training as he should have so we need to keep an eye on him when he is around other dogs. Akita's have a high prey drive & are more likely to be dog aggressive if not properly socialized so do your best to get him socialized.

  • normal try spending some time training
