*ALERT* Coming to the US in the remixed form Art Style: Light Trax hell yes

Okay, it seems that most people have no idea how to play Formation mode and quickly pass it off as lame and useless. I, however, find it as one of the best game modes in all of the bit Generations games. Want to learn how to play Formation mode? Cool.

Instead of competing against AI opponents as in the other modes of dotstream, in Formation mode you are racing to keep up a life bar that steadily decreases over time. Collecting pellets allows you to extend your life meter and bump up your score counter. Running into obstacles kills your meter.

After one of the rectangles on your life meter has been sufficiently filled up, another line will join you, the screen will change colours and another track will be layered onto the background music. Even though you can not directly control lines other than your own, they can assist you in pellet collection. Be careful, though; when these lines ram into an object they also decrease your life and may even disappear should your life meter drop too low.

So how do you use these extra lines to your advantage? The trick is to collect Formations by placing first overall in the Grand Prix missions. Each time you win a new GP, another Formation becomes available for you to use. A Formation can be activated by holding down its appropriate button. While I haven't unlocked all the Formations, here's what some of them do:
A Button: Other lines will turn in unison with yours.
Right D-Pad: All lines "catch up" to yours.
Left D-Pad: Lines "split apart" from yours.

Hopefully these instructions will help some of you out. I'm missing a Formation that is needed when you reach about six or seven lines, so I've never maxed out my life meter...

  • This game should be sold in the U.S.!

  • Yeah really. At least you can import it for relatively cheap ($30 last I checked).

  • ur bad

  • bluedisk says, "the OP sucks at playing the game. it was easily the best game in the bit generations series on GBA."

  • THX you man ;)

  • Nice vide, tnx for the upload! It really helped me.

  • On play-asia it's 9.90 right now

  • So what happens when you max out your life meter? Does the creator of the game pop out of the screen and tell you you've been playing dotstream way too much?

    :P

  • Nice video... I'm sure it'll help a lot of people. I was initially confused by Formation mode too... I learned how to play it after having unlocked all the formations... so a lot of time spent in the GP game. However, I disagree that its one of the best modes... its fun at first, and it keeps getting faster and more frantic, but then it kind of just stops getting faster (around 5000 points) and then it becomes boring and repititive... a shame, really.
