Brad Wright and Alyce Caron anchor this newscast from back in 1987. This was a particularly nasty evening, weatherwise, for the North Texas region. There were several incidents of tornados.

This clip also features the late great Harold Taft, who served as the station's chief meteorologist for over 40-plus years, from the station's inception in 1948 until his death in 1991. You'll note his signature line, "We'll keep you advised." It is said that to this day, KXAS meteorologists sign off every severe weather cut-in with that line in memory of Harold. More can be found about one of TV News's longest serving weather forecasters at wikipedia.org, and do a keyword search for "Harold Taft".

Also, another note of TV news trivia: the music package heard here is called "Wall To Wall News", and was one of Stephen Arnold Music's first news music packages.

  • What happened to Alyce Caron? She just disappeared.

  • @shannonm75 I could always be wrong, but I believe she is now a host-item presenter at The Home Shopping Network (HSN)

  • @jdcnow: Do you remember what day, or at least what month this happened in 1987?

    Thanks.

  • @JohnnyDart76 No, I sure don't.

  • RIP Harold Taft (1922-1991)

  • Back then if you wanted to know what was really going to happen weather-wise, you tuned into Harold Taft. Once the other stations were predicting an ice storm armageddon Harold said "ain;t gonna happen". The next day was clear in the 50's. Harold was da' man.

  • the good old days

  • @jdcnow: Ah well, thanks anyway.
