The Ocean is Fed Up With Us

St. Louis, World Ocean Day, June 8 -- Save the Ocean! The Ocean is under a major threat because we humans, do not understand the concept of living sustainable lives. Ocean life is fed up with how we are treating them. They have sent a live Mermaid to the World Aquarium to tell us how and what we should eat to help save the Ocean.

The Mermaid will arrive at the World Aquarium sometime this Sunday and will only be here one day. She has arranged a complimentary sustainable seafood tasting and wants you to join her so that she can show you how to help save her and her Ocean friends. The tasting will consist of Tilapia, Alaskan Salmon and rainbow trout and will begin at 1:30 pm and last until 3:30 pm. Don't be late. You don't want to miss seeing the Mermaid from the Sea!

Background:

The World Aquarium is suggesting that everyone try to live more sustainable lives. By doing this, the Aquarium is showing people how they can live sustainable. By giving people examples such as what type of foods they eat, managing electricity, saving gas, and using by using compact florescent bulbs, the public can learn how to live more sustainable.

Sustainable Seafood Campaign
One main objective on living sustainable is what we eat. There are specific types of seafood that are perfect to eat in order to stay sustainable. A few of these foods are such things as Catfish, Stone Crab, Lobster (US), Farmed Oysters, Alaskan Salmon, Bay Farmed Scallops, Tilapia, Rainbow Trout and Skipjack Tuna. These are some of the best choices you can chose to eat. The reason these are better choices to eat is because they are abundant, well-managed and caught or farmed in environmentally friendly ways. Others such as Groupers, Monkfish, Rockfish, Sharks or Bluefin Tuna are not very good choices to eat when trying to live sustainable. The reason for this is because right now, these seafood options are caught or farmed in a way that harm other marine life or the environment.

Sustainable Seafood Served

One of the types of seafood, we will be sharing at the World Aquarium will be Tilapia. The reason Tilapia is a good choice is because it is 100 percent sustainable. The Marine Conservation Society has approved of it. Tilapia has a mild, good taste and can be used in many recipes. This is a very healthy food for you to eat as well.

Another type of seafood the World Aquarium will be serving is wild Alaskan Salmon. The Alaskan Salmon was indeed the first US Fishery to be certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council. They are very abundant and supply many nutrients to people, animals, soil and plants.

The third type of seafood we will taste will be Rainbow Trout. Rainbow Trout is inexpensive and very plentiful. The reason this seafood is listed as sustainable is because it is farmed inland using methods that do not release pollution.
