You will get 10 times the radiation while actually travelling inside the airplane so I don't see why it would make any difference to you if you/your food get's x-ray'ed or not.

@MrBallack25 you wrap it in plastic then on the outside rap the plastic in cardboard put it in the center of your suitcase, line the inside of your suitecase with plastic.. or if your just bringin an ounce,, put it in your underwear :)

I've received an airport security training and at least in the most developed countries the machines are completely harmless. Even if a person has pacemaker the risk of any health risk is very very small.

And btw, the metal detector doesn't actually give you any amount of radiation, it's technology is based on magnetic field.
