FreediveToronto.com : Doug Sitter, a former Canadian freediving champion and my Coach, demonstrates the proper dolphin kick technique. He's doing a 50M Dynamic demonstration.
Notice that he doesn't bend his knees. The kick is done from the hips by contracting his abdominal muscles. The effect is that his legs now function much like a Dolphin's tail. The advantage is that you get more distance for every kick because you use up less energy and you're streamlined.
One of the keys to successful apnea is going through water with the minimum amount of resistance. Pointing your arms over your head and pointing your fingers forward, tucking your head between your arms and a Dolphin kick technique which reduces the drag by not bending the knees amounts to low water resistance.
Although still a beginer in dynamic freediving, Doug's help with streamlining my dolphin kick has allowed me to double my distances in Dynamic in a matter of weeks.
It really does work folks! observe what Doug is doing and try it out for yourself.
Recorded by myself at the Etobicoke Olympium with an olympus stylus tough 8000.
