Keiths 1960`s Top Loading AutoWasher with Dishwasher attachment. This is the Thor Automagic Semi-Automatic Top Loading Washing Machine.

It washes, rinses & spins 7lbs of dry clothing and has an agitator to clean the clothes!!!

The automagic has an outer tub which is the cabinet, inside it has the inner tub which has the agitator drive in it and holds the washing, you manually fill the inner tub with washwater, add powder & switch the motor on using the switches & lever on the front.

Nnce the washing is done simply mover the lever & switch again to start the inner tub spinning at around 650rpm!!! this damp dries the clothes, then you can spray water onto the clothes to "SpinRinse" and or fill the tub with clear water to deep rinse the clothes. This can be repeated until rinsewater is clear. Then select spin dry to dampdry the clothes.

This model also came with a "dishWasher" attachment which you could purchase seperatley, enabling you to wash your dishes in the machine!!! you had to remove the washtub and stabaliser ring from the base and insert a wire basket which held the dishes!!!

  • I think this was made before the 1960's. It looks like an early 1950's model.

  • That was great, fascinating machine, I was terrified when it started to spin LOL I didn't expected that, That was a thrill. Thanks.

  • My parents were born in the 60's! Mom born in '63 and dad in '62. Mom is 48 yrs old and dad is 49 yrs old.

  • In the early 60s our neighbour in the U.K. had a Thor similar to the one featured only it had foot pedals to operate it. We later aquired a Parnall Spinwasher which although of lesser quality compared to the Thor this did have the advantage that having spun the water into the outer casing it could later be pumped back into the wash tub for the next wash with resultant water / heat saving. The agitator gearbox was integral with the wash tub and the entire unit rotated for the spin cycle.

  • Wow! Fun to watch!

  • Oh man.....

Now THIS old dude really WASHES!!

I just put on a video of my new front loader, and how DISAPPOINTED I am with it!!

    (I want a THOR!)

  • that's a great movie. My grandma had one of these machines in the 60s, but I never saw it working.

  • thats a cool washer I like it !!!

  • Had one in our kitchen as a kid growing up in in Stuyvesant Town NYC..built like a tank for sure....never thought I would hear that sound again.

  • Nice machine Keith, I had one once don't remember what happend to it.

Never saw the dish side of it run. That would be cool!
