NEW CHARACTERS - pinyin - tone - meaning

謝 (Simplified: 谢) - xie - 4th tone - thanks (also a surname)

們(Simplified: 们) - men - neutral (or 2nd) tone - add to pronouns and some nouns to make them plural

他 - ta - 1st tone - OK, so this character means "he" - but this pronunciation means he, she, it. There are different characters for she and it (PRONOUNCED THE SAME), but I'll give you those later.

喝 - he - 1st tone - to drink

葡 - pu - 2nd tone - grape

萄 - tao - 2nd tone - grape

酒 - jiu - 3rd tone - any kind of alcoholic drink

葡萄酒 - pu2tao2jiu3 - wine

我們 - wo3men - we, us

你們 - ni3men - you (plural)

他們 - ta1men - them

GRAMMAR:

Add 們 (men) to pronouns and some select people-nouns to make them plural.

WHAT YOU CAN SAY NOW:

1) 謝謝你!- xie4xie4ni3 - Thank you!

2) 謝謝媽媽!- xie4xie4ma1ma - Thanks mom!

3) 他喝葡萄酒。- ta1he1pu2tao2jiu3. - He drinks wine.

4) 你喜歡喝葡萄酒。 - ni3xi3huan1he1pu2tao2jiu3. - You like to drink wine.

5) 我的老虎愛喝酒。 - wo3de lao3hu3ai4he1jiu3. - My tiger loves drinking alcohol.

6) 我喜歡你的葡萄。 wo3xi3huan1ni3de pu2tao2. - I like your grapes.

7) 我們喝葡萄酒。wo3men he1pu2tao2jiu3. - We drink wine.

  • i think you can say"妈妈们,but it means other people's mom not yours of course (unless you have two or more mothers,lol) or the total title of all the moms in the world.for example you can say"儿科医生给妈妈们6个育儿建议"(this is what i search by google with the word 妈妈们),here "妈妈们means all the mothers,i hope it will be helpful,:).

  • @y153481314 Wow! Thanks. So can you say 们 with any kind of people word? The feeling I got from my teacher was that you can use 们 with people words like: 孩子們, 朋友們, 同學們, but you don't have to use it, but if you do use it, it signals that you are fond of the people, or close to them.

    I guess it makes sense that you can say with 媽媽。
