  • Not bad. I am not sure if I agree with the chess scene, but I do admit it is original.

  • Would probably make more sense to you if you saw the entire production. Chess was the metaphor for the entire production, and was reflected in the set, blocking, costumes and interpretation of the plotline. Not to say this would make you like it as a metaphor, but you would certainly see how its presence in this scene was consistent with the show interpretation.

  • @Sphenacodon To name a Spanish-Speaking man Che is like naming an English-Speaker child "Friend." or another term of slang for addressing somebody- it's not a common name for obvious reasons. Even in this song, he's warning Eva about his decision to leave Argentina to go to Cuba- which Guevara did.

Maybe you prefer fairies over real people? The guy Che sees the world, after his hormones go back to normal. The woman Evita sees only herself after experiencing the same calming down. And, alas, gets all the admiration. Unfortunately, the uneducated majority has chosen evita's over che's often in history. The mightiest country in the world even chose an actor for president, not so long ago.

  • @flywatch

And great performance. Why are Julie Covington and Madonna so praised, and this woman so unknown? She's performing at least as well. And the guy too. I mean, he puts down the character Che, a man troubled by the real problem that she, in her sheer hunger for fame, seems completely unaware of.

I don't buy it. Che is a very common name. There is nothing in the musical that points to your these, except that the man can be considered a protester. But there were millions of protesters at the time. Admitted, there are no clear indications that he isn't Che Guevara. Of course the authors were aware of the special meaning of the name in the non-latin world. So, this (imho) obious ambiguity might be a typical Lloyd Webber joke. But maybe I overlooked somthing specific?

  • @flywatch It's Che Guevara. I mean, protestings, heavy anarchism, deciding to leave Argentina, unable to keep a job due to his opinionation,etc...And Che was only a nickname. His real name was Ernesto. :)

  • Great clip. Great song and composition too. Shows a fundamental dilemma.

By the way, I don't think this Che was supposed to be Che Guevara. He was never in the original story, and It's not like Webber to pull a cheap trick like that. He's just some guy called Che, which is arather common name.

  • Gave me goosebumps! I wish I could have been in the audience for this production.

  • probably the best EVITA that i have seen on youtube.

  • this is possibly one of the best Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice songs ever written. It's a beautiful tune and AMAZING lyrics.

  • Love Eva, hate Che.
