2 gigs is enough ram, and a dual core is all you need. I upgraded to a triple core and experimented by turning off cores, dual is enough. You didn't specify which Nvidia card you have though. Generally, as long as you have a gaming card(not a general purpose card) and stick to the resolution that card was designed for you should be alright.

Example: Nvidia 210 and 220? Not gaming cards. Nividia 240 and 250 are gaming cards, meant for ~1280x1024 resolution.

If I can run Fallout 3 with 25-30 FPS on a Pentium 4 and a Geforce 9600 GT, can I do the same with New Vegas?

Yes. My experience is that New Vegas is the same, in performance, as Fallout 3. There may be some performance glitches, but that's due to bugs and/or whatever updates Obsidian made to the engine. They are known for making good games, but buggy games. So if you're looking for a Fallout game with even better graphics this game is not it, but that means if you know how Fallout 3 runs on your system then you know how New Vegas will run on your system.

5450 is not a gaming videocard, it is similar to a 9400 in performance, so your 9600 should be a much faster card. I got this card for its home theater abilities though.

the game was running on Pentium 4. The character also appears that

is sliding instead of walking? If you put the textures in

medium or low, the game runs fine (my settings are

virtually the same)?
