I have a question for you. I'm in a wheelchair and I'm getting into archery, so I was wondering what a good brand of compound bows would be. Size would is an issue too, I cant shoot long or most re-curve bows due to the chair getting in the way. I was looking at Hoyt, but your input would be welcome. Something no higher than 60lbs (due to competition rules.) Thanks

Hoyt makes a good bow... no question about that. You may also want to look at the Mathews Solo Cam bows. They are very smooth to draw.

This is not archery... With that type of bow you can draw the string and hold it there forever, And the strength of the bow is so high that hitting something is easy. Recurve or traditional bows are the real thing.

The fact of the matter is... it is archery. Your comment is like saying fishing without a fly rod is not fishing.

You do however make a valid point, use of the compound bow certainly takes a lot of the guess work out of the equation. Hitting something with any degree of accuracy still requires considerable practice.

As for holding forever, well, I can't. Modern bows do have let-off of up to 75%, that means more accurate shots and less chance of wounded animals!

If you think shooting a compound is not archery, do you only shoot black powder guns?

I'm hoping to go bow-hunting this fall, and I don't want to WOUND an animal. I prefer to shoot a recurve, but am not consistent enough with it to KILL an animal. So, in the interest of humane hunting ethics, I will use a compound.

Oh, and for shooting, yes I DO shoot black powder guns, as well as modern semi-automatic rifles.

Use the right tool for the job at hand.

Well i do not look at this as archery when it comes to shooting objects but for hunting i would probably not use anything else then a compound bow because of what you said i agree to that, But for target shooting a compound bow to me is never impressing. But for hunting this is the bow to use for sure.

That's next on my list. My good friend makes long bows and he wants me to give it a go!

Good, but compounds are easy. Try with a traditional bow, like a recurve or long bow.
