Psychologist Dr. J. Buzz Von Ornsteiner aka Dr. Buzz talks with television host Lisa Bloom on the mental and emotional health of Kathleen Hilton. Ms. Hilton is accused of setting a fire that killed five people. She is mentally challenged and emotionally disturbed, but did she committ arson?
Prosecutors said the grandmother set a fire that killed five people, including three young girls, because she was allegedly angry her son's ex-girlfriend wouldn't let him see his two kids.
Shortly after her arrest, she was found incompetent to stand trial after she said her cell was "haunted" and she saw "spirits." But later, psychiatrists deemed her competent, meaning she could understand the charges against her and assist her attorney with her defense.

Kathleen Hilton walked out of court after being found not guilty on all counts. The judge did voice concerns over where Hilton would go after she was released and her attorneys stated that she would be in the home of her elder daughter.
Thus, Hilton was freed after spending the last decade of her life in prison awaiting trial.

  • to dorotwhy.....i was friends with the five people that died at that fire...she deserved the time...!!!!!

  • Another thing, I understand Kathleen did not receive SSI disability payments while she was incarcerated. IMO she should receive 10 years retroactive payments at least. This was a fascinating case that kept me glued to the television. One thing I just cant get over is the time it took for it to come to trial.

  • I'm so glad that Kathy was found innocent. The post-trial interviews with Ms. Hilton shown on tru tv today made me smile. She really has a likable personality. She seems to have a positive outlook and exhibited no anger regarding the unjust 10 year incarceration she was forced to endure.
