retroflow:i ALWAYS try to find MY way by singing a song. this is the hardest work because everybody can sing every song and it would sound always different.but one can say i like this or i dislike this. the way k d lang is working on this song makes me depressed,i miss the special feeling, she is making a ordinary song of it. but no way .. this is my opinion and i am not fanatic in any way, a lot of people like this version, well... ok... live and let live ....

This is one of those, that at first you find yourself thinking, only ONE peson can do this cong, but then after a while, and you listen to it more the more you find that is is beautiful canvas with a different brush. Like At Last, Etta James, Cyndy Laupner: I revel in them both. Kade Never eads these, but if she did, I would ask her not to stop. Ever.
But we all love music as it is universal.
Play on!

I listen to this song by Ella Fitzgerald and I think neither of them are worse then they other because they are different versions of the song. Fitzgerald a swing to it and its happy. While k.d. Lang sings this song more slow and sad but with passion. I personally like k.d. lang version better.

well its so wonderful that music has different sides... enjoy the kd lang version, than it is the one for you!forme still this way to interprete the song is more or less a sin. but nothing happens, it is only music about we are talking and every song which is in public belongs to the public. everybody can chose the one he likes more. have a nice day ... eva

@odysseetheater You'd better yourself by developing your own style of vocals rather than aspiring to be just like Ella or anyone else. That's partly what jazz is about..

This reminds me of Jazz audiences in general - far too many insist that Parker and Coltrane are the only Jazz anyone should listen to. I think that they just like to name-drop as no real fan of Jazz would ever limit themselves to 2 or 3 Artists only. It's not about tastes any more at that point, just packaging.

@135Emmy Yeah, I'm with you on this one. Ella's vocals were great but I can't get into the arrangement. This cover, on the other hand, is moodier, more melancholy and pensive. I like it too.

I should also point out that the compression here seems to flatten the song a bit. I have/had the CD and it's much more vibrant than this. The other copy on YouTube is closer to the CD.
