The Prince of Tenors, wie Pavarotti sagte ! Schade, dass Ich ihn nie live hören werde, ich würde sehr viel dafür geben !

@tehen162 The question to Corelli was not what he thought of Gigli, but what he regretted about his career and what he would change if he could go back. The answer was to sing with more beauty and sweetness like Gigli.
-
@crapfacejoe Beauty and sweetness are no way technical terms. Corelli was a very polite man, who respected the great singers like Gigli, that's all. I don't think Del Monaco's or Lanza's renditions were better than this, opinions differ.
-
@crapfacejoe Del Monaco's and Lanza's E lucevan le stelle is far better than this.
-
@tehen162 It can also be a technical term when describing operatic styles. That's what Corelli meant when he said if there is anything he could change it would be to sing with more beauty and sweetness like Gigli.
-
@crapfacejoe On the contrary, this is definitely a great perfomance. A legend. From all aspects. Beauty is subjective, many would say Corelli had not only a strong but a beautiful voice.
-
@Operanobility He obviously doesn't agree with you. When asked what he regrets or would change, he said I'd try to sing with beauty like Gigli. The interview is posted on youtube if you look for it. And you cannot say this is a great performance not if you've listened to some other great tenors perform it.
-
@crapfacejoe Did you ever hear him live? I did. And I stand by what I said.
-
@Operanobility I wouldn't go that far, there is a lot he didn't have in his voice. Powerful pipes but admittedly he could never sing with beauty as Gigli for example. This was a poor performance.

Some singers...and really only a handful...have it all. Corelli was #1 in that category.
The greatest - there were & are "decent" other tenors, but NO ONE can approach the excitement & magnificence that this man produced.

Perfect technique, but the way Corelli emotes in this performance...it's beyond words. Through his incredible, perhaps unmatched vocal prowess, so much humanity is revealed. Just awesome.
