@paulinolondon Mariah herself have stated many times that Whitney Houston was an inspiration to her. Ofcourse it's pretty impossible for Whitney to be her biggest inspiration over others like Aretha, Minnie Ripperton, Stevie Wonder, etc. but perhaps Whitney became what she aspired to be later on down the line.
Clearly Mariah wasn't Beyonces main inspiration, but Beyonce says it was Mariah who set her mind to becoming a singer. Maybe thats what Whitney was to Mariah.

@beatingxheartbaby: Over reacted mate!! She cannot be highly influenced by WH. She grew up listening to different singers.Those are her direct and great influences not WH. Certainly they had similar influences in their singing, therefore the riffs are similar. Just because WH came out first that doesn't imply her influence on Mariah.I believe came as a response to WH.@ that time there was not singer who could sing like her or better.MC was thrown into a direct competition with WH.

@paulinolondon wow, "don't know where you got the highly influenced by whitney," that sounds really pretentiously cunty. but oh well... anyway, i see what @beatingxheartbaby means ... even if they didn't mean that mariah was influenced directly, her riffs are somewhat in the style of whitney's, but obviously with her own flair and interpretation.
