Shinden was originally a interceptor. Never really entered service.
Ones in the movie are Rostok Corporation's Sanka Mk.B

wow, sorry I was talking out of my ass for a sec there, it was experimental, never saw service, i just randomly remembered reading something about them being used for kamakaze, must have been a plane with a similar name... i fail

they're based off of japanese shinden prop fighters, often used for kamakaze due to their high speed (I think)
they're referred to as type C's in the movie

Hey seeing how you've seen this movie, can you answer a question? Is that Yuichi that died in the end? I figure he'll keep coming back as other people and his flame with Kusinagi will stay but how does the novel end really?
