OK, this is a series of clips from my project to assemble a pole dance pole from ordinary parts that can be purchased at the Hardware Store--in this case, Home Depot.

The piece of aluminum conduit was $24.00. The cutting tool was about $20.00. The two pieces of wood were $14.00, the clips about $5.00 for four of them. I bought the wooden base at a craft store for about $7.00.

This is an assembly of four clips that show, respectively, how the pole fits in the fitting, measuring the pole to the 89.5 inch height, and using the conduit cutter.

In a later vid, I will demonstrate how I installed the pole in the basement.

My mom, who is eighty, showed up right after my daughter and I finished the whole project (MarleyMe95, who will be my cameragirl in the next segment.) Too bad the camera wasn't still runnning, because that would have made for a humurous upload. She said, "Are you insane?"

Well, maybe just a little!

Thanks to my wife for being such a good sport. She's been very tolerant of this summer's vacation project! I love you, Laurie!

Recorded on July 22, 2008 using a Flip Video camcorder.

  • nice shorts

  • @billyblackshoes Thank you! /Joel Lessing

  • You are awesome! My fiancee wanted to build a dance pole for me but we just didnt know where to start!

  • This was a pretty crude way to go about it...but the pole has been up and working for almost 2 years. It's a great way to check it out for less money thana conventional pole. But if you get hooked onthe hobby, definitely invest in one of the nicer portable poles coated in chrome, stainless, ot Titanium Gold. The grip is better...and you can take them down when guests show up who don't "approve"--lol!! Have fun with it...hope you'll post some videos.

  • I'm trying to convince my husband to halp me build one, but the thing is that we live with othe people, you think that I can make one like that but removable?? please help with ideas

  • The obvious solution might be to try to build the pole with a "base" at both ends--the top part padded somehow to brace against the ceiling. These top pieces are called ROSETTES and are a common solution in the portable commercial poles. You'd need some way to screw it in and out to adjust compression. It's probably not easy unless your husband is a skilled handyman with tools and projects. Another solution would be a portable pole (X-POLE and Platinum Stages are best), they are easy to remove.

  • THANKS for video.I love pole dancing for fitness. I used to be a dancer, and was always in awesome shape. People would always ask me how I stayed in such good shape. All I did was go to work. However, I am retired. I was going to purchase a pole. The 2reasons I didn't are 1. $300 is a rip-off 2. Building my own honestly seems safer. Many poles out there use only 1 screw!!That does not seem safe for my level of pole dance expertise.Lets c how I do!

  • hi good job can't wait to see the rest of it. Could you take a look at my video and tell me what you think of my homemade pole? thnx

    Trina~

  • Basically, I just used a bunch of those steel hooks or loops and just screwed them into the wood! There are two hooks around the pole up top, another hooked inside the open top of the pole. As a sort of dead man safety, I screwed two looser hooks around the outside of the main hooks in case they failed. The joist wood had softened with 100 years of age, so I put the thin Oak boards up on either side as reinforcement--and hammered in a steel strap along the joist, too--for good measure!

  • I made my own pole from hardware store parts. I am improving my design by re-inforcing the back with sheet metal...

I am curious to see how you got your's clamped to the ceiling.
