Yeah, I and Love and You lacks one of the Avett's strongest points-the energy. They are awesome (IMO) because of their song writing, brotherly harmonies, and their energy. There are live versions of a couple of songs you can find on YouTube that are amazing (like this one of Laundry Room, and there are some goodies of Tin Man).

I think the Avetts' more country stuff is actually their best; I love the breakdown at the end of Laundry Room - it sounds almost like a country stomp.

The 4 essential Avetts albums are

-Emotionalism (which you've got)
-Four Thieves Gone
-The Gleam EP
-The Second Gleam EP

Mignonette if you're really into their more country stuff - and then Country Was if you're really into it.

I and Love and You was pretty weak IMO.
Rubin kind of took out nearly all of thier best qualities.
