The beauty of RUSH...One of their most beautiful songs...

The band needs to re-master this one next, into a nice 5.1 suuround dvd CD.
-
flourishes and accents ? Really?
-
@JCAUPS1 i never said you couldn't play it lol, i'm just saying that if you've never seen another drummer do it, its probably because they couldn't get the 11/8 time signature with all the flourishes and accents correctly, my point was to just get time signature down and be able to play it correctly, then work on actual syncopation

@21Rushisaband12 Nope your'e right it is 6/4 than 5/4 had to go play it.

Well I won the Guitar center drum off in 1995 in So Cal...I can play "Natural Science" to a T which is harder than this song. I did not say I could not play it. It's seeing other drummers try to play it...That say they can. They get the Hi Hat part right. But the right foot 5/4 then 6/4 is where they cant hang-You got the 6/4 & 5/4 backwords..Listen to the kick drum. 12345-123456

@Wingfieldr my dad always the retrospective tapes in our car, and as a kid, all i knew where those rush songs, me and him were always huge fans, then i drifted away from rush for a few years, but then i re-listed to those tapes and got hooked again, then i got their entire discography and actually introduced him to this song, now he loves it, along with many other hidden gems we've found... i'm 18, my dad is 58... so, likewise, nuff said....

@JCAUPS1 the song starts in 5/4 time signature and the part you're talking about doesn't sound particularly difficult, maybe the syncopation is hard to get down, but during the part that starts at 2:50 the beat altenates between 6/4 and 5/4 every other time, so its like 11/8... and after that at 3:56 it goes to 6/4 ... and the rest of the song is in 5/4 and 4/4, hard to play, yes, but count it out and then practice and it shouldn't be too hard to learn it, or at least it worked for me
LIke bands like Roxy, Talk Talk, Joe Jackson & their fans, Rush & we fans don't give a shit what self-absorbed pretentious criticts think. We're not snobs, we simply recognize something-a bit more so to speak. More important we feel what they're playing & what they're trying to convey. As a young aspiring artist I could "feel" exactly the emotion they were creating my 1st listen. If anything, now I only feel it more deeply, especially where the frantic race against time starts about 2:40 in.
