A Day at Steamtown (Part 1-- With Cab Ride)

Part 1 of A Day at Steamtown, July 6, 2007...

See CPR Pacific No. 2317 pull out of the roundhouse and into the yard, where the final preparations are made for the day's runs. Then, climb aboard the cab for a ride with the engineer and fireman as they pull back the throttle and shovel on the coal. (You also get some old Delaware and Lackawanna Alcos for good measure...)

The crew was really wonderful... very accommodating, and quick to answer any questions.

Does this engine have a stoker? Also, is the K4 still there?

@Bassfanatic94 2317 does have a stoker, though they weren't using it a lot on this visit. I did see the K4 in the Steamtown roundhouse as of last year...

Went to see Steamtown again about a month ago-- 26's boiler was still off of the engine, but both the boiler and the engine looked like they had received work. I'm afraid I don't know too many specifics, though.

They were working on 26 this past Thursday Oct. 22-09 putting in her stay bolts.

Go to an Ohio Central event. I am now 15 but this year i was 14 and i got to drive 1293 out of Newark Ohio. I have two videos of me in the cab. Byesville is a good chance to get a cab ride.

26 is basically scattered across the backshop. All the parts seem to be in order(as of Railfest 2008) and it just looks like it needs to be put back together. However I was talking to a mechanist at Railfest and he said it could be a while before its in working order

It kind of sucks that you have to be 16 years old to get a cab ride. I wish I could've got one. But I'm just 12. :(
