KZ750 Rat Bike project Stage 1

This is a 1981 KZ750 LTD. I found it on Craigslist. It had been sitting for over 15 years uncovered in a driveway. Ironically there was a bike cover in the main storage box on the bike that they didn't use, you can see it on the ground in a pic. Brakes are shot, clutch cable is frozen, two of the carbs sliders were fozen, and the igniter was bad and only allowed 2 cylinders to fire. I found the GM HEI module mod on the web and contacted a local Bike salvage yard to purchase some carbs. What you are about to see took 6 days to get to this point.

can anyone tell me what a twin engine is?

A "Twin" is a 2 cylinder (2 piston) engine. Some earlier KZ750's were "Twins". This one is a 4 cylinder

What are the two modules doing?

The GM HEI Automotive modules are there to replace the expensive factory ignitor. When I first started the bike it only ran on the 2 outboard cylinders due to the ignitor being bad.I did some checking and found a link to this modification on the web. It works flawlessly to redline and beyond :)

i recently got a 1982 and the muffler was like that but had a ton more rust. i had to take it off and sand it down now i just have to go out and get some high heat black paint. then all i need to do is get turn signals for it and it is ready to ride... can't wait!

hey nice hook up with the hei modules post a few pics with the wiring daigram for this set up.was poering same for a gpz 550 84.also working on putting a out board alt on a cb 900f 82 bike is mint con. but not chargeing bettery and new rotor is expensive.any way thanks have a great 1.

my dad bought one on ebay for 400. it in good condition and runs. just needs new front brakes and carbs redone. but it runs
